Poker – Game of Danger and Glamour
The famous game of poker has always been associated with the thrills of gambling and living on the edge, and a new book by writer James McManus, “Positively Fifth Street”, reveals that life is as unpredictable as a poker game.
Journalist James McManus entered the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe Casino as part of a writing assignment for Harper’s Bazaar. He was also covering the sensational trial connected with the Las Vegas crime of the century – the murder of Horseshoe Casino founder, Ted Binion.
Once in Las Vegas, and playing competitive poker, McManus also heard the testimony of the two lovers Sandy Murphy and Rick Tabish. Sandy Murphy, a former exotic dancer, was Ted Binion’s girlfriend and was accused of murdering the wealthy playboy in a plot hatched with her boyfriend Rick Tabish.
McManus’ book describes the whole experience of Las Vegas, from finishing sixth in the WSOP and taking home $247,760, to the history of poker.
